The facts

Trump announced on March 18, 2025 that Russia and Ukraine agreed to a 30-day halt on strikes against energy infrastructure.

Within hours of the announcement, Ukrainian officials reported continued Russian drone and missile attacks on energy facilities, including a hospital in Sumy.

The war is in its fourth year, having begun with Russia's full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022.

The U.S. has provided more than $66 billion in military aid to Ukraine since the invasion began, according to the State Department.

Russia has struck Ukrainian energy infrastructure in sustained campaigns since late 2022, at times knocking out power for millions of civilians heading into winter.
